Reading the market

When there are no active community bids or asks, a current official-store listing published by WristMarkets supplies the retail reference price. This is labelled separately from a market estimate. Unavailable offers and prices checked more than 30 days ago are excluded. Retail references do not create price history or 30-day changes.

Each reference brings together its estimated value, price history and active buying and selling intentions. The chart shows how the estimate has changed over the selected period. Prices are displayed in EUR.

The highest bid and lowest ask come from active listings for that exact reference. Creating or closing a listing updates the order book; it does not change the reference estimate or price history.

The spread is the lowest ask minus the highest bid. A negative spread can occur when independent intentions overlap. Bids and asks are expressions of interest, not completed sales or automatically matched orders.

Comparing brands

References: the exact references tracked in this catalogue. Median value: the middle estimated price across those references, averaging the two middle prices for an even count. 30 days: the arithmetic average of their 30-day percentage changes, with equal weight for every reference. Both price metrics cover the references tracked by WristMarkets.

Listed value: the sum of prices on active asks for a brand. Each listing counts once; bids and closed listings are excluded. Asks and bids: counts of active selling and buying intentions across that brand’s tracked references. These figures update when a listing is created or closed. They measure activity on WristMarkets, not the whole secondary market.

We do not currently report market capitalisation or traded volume for brands. A total value for watches in circulation would require reliable quantities per reference; traded volume requires completed sales. Adding reference prices or asking prices cannot provide either figure. A brand with no tracked references shows no median or price change; no active asks means a listed value of zero.

Have, want, buy and sell are different.

Collection: watches you own, with your purchase price and notes. Watchlist: watches you are following. Ask: a watch you are willing to sell. Bid: an offer to buy a particular reference.

Adding a watch to your collection never puts it up for sale. Collection performance compares your recorded purchase price with the market estimate; it is an unrealised difference, before fees or selling costs.

WristMarkets does not process payments, shipping, authentication or escrow. Those arrangements sit with the buyer and seller.
